Project AWAL GreenH2, a flagship initiative in Algeria's green industrial strategy. The project aims to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy for use in green steel production at Tosyali's Algerian complex.

  • The project is designed to:

    Support Industrial Decarbonization
Substitute fossil fuels with green hydrogen in steel production, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions from one of Algeria’s highest-emitting sectors while also positioning Algeria to be a green export hub.

    Leverage Algeria’s Solar Resource
Utilize abundant solar irradiation to generate competitively priced renewable electricity for electrolysis.

The memorandum of understanding sets the stage for a two-phased project:

Phase I will involve comprehensive studies to evaluate feasibility, relevance, and profitability.

Phase II will focus on actual project development, aligning with the energy transition goals of the companies.

Project Bonsmara

Project Bonsmara.jpg

Project Bonsmara, a 60MW PV project controlled by HGR GIBB Energy, is at an advanced stage of development that will sell electricity to an energy trader, and possibly private off takers.

  • Given the country’s declining electricity reliability, load-shedding crisis, and coal dominance, South Africa has an urgent need for energy security and renewable solutions. Project Bonsmara will be part of the solution, providing customized energy solutions through wheeling arrangements and potentially coupled with on-site energy storage solutions.

The project is located 12 km southeast of Kroonstad in the Free State Province.

Project Marang Green

Botswana.avif

Project Marang Green is a project close to Francistown that will be a 50 MW PV Project and can include battery storage systems. The project is being developed in close collaboration with HGR’s partner in Botswana and will be built on land that is owned by an affiliate of our partner.

  • The power will be sold to either the Southern Africa Power Pool, large energy users, or BPC. This project has received strong support from the U.S. Consulate, which is eager to see HGR succeed in Botswana.

Despite Botswana’s abundant solar resources, utility-scale solar PV projects remain limited. The country’s energy supply is largely coal-based and relies on imports from South Africa and other neighboring countries.

Importantly, Botswana maintains one of the strongest sovereign credit ratings in Sub-Saharan Africa, providing a stable macroeconomic environment and an attractive risk profile for long-term infrastructure investment.

This project marks a major step in Botswana’s renewable energy transition, driving energy security, sustainability, and economic growth.
